This book traces the history of hot air or external heat supply engines. This begins with the thermoscope of Philo of Byzantium invented two centuries BC. It continued until the end of the 20th century with, in particular, the decisive work of the Philips company. This book describes these engines and their mode of operation. He tries to indicate the different possible applications that these could have today or tomorrow. For the most diligent readers, some theoretical elements are provided in order to better design and produce these devices. This work is aimed at a wide audience, from beginners to experts. To do this, the book is structured into different parts: some are quite general, others intended for a more specialist readership on the subject. Each part begins with things that are easy to understand, but essential, and moves towards more difficult developments. The content of this work comes in part from the site devoted to hot air engines and sites relating to associated engines ( Stirling , Ericsson , Manson ). However, it includes many additions, particularly, but not only, on the historical part. These two media, internet and books, do not compete with each other but on the contrary complement each other. One benefits from the other and vice versa. The paper medium remains current. The physical contact we have with a book is irreplaceable. It allows you to memorize what you read well. You can take it anywhere, highlight it, display it in your library...
